Deborah's positions have included working as a Hospice and Oncology Social Worker and as a Mental Health Therapist in a community Mental Health agency. This program promotes public safety by encouraging recovery-based behavior via abstinence from alcohol and mandated substance abuse treatment.
Persons assigned to this program have frequent supervision appointments with the Specialized DWI Officer, alcosensor checks and field checks, including home visits and bar checks.
Offenders must install an ignition interlock device in their vehicles per Leandra's Law.

Mandated Service includes:
  • investigation and supervision for Tompkins County Criminal Courts and Family Court
  • intake (diversion services for Juvenile Delinquency and Person In Need of Supervision) for Family Court
Intake is the department's only voluntary service and the only one available to walk ins and without a court order.
The Intake Officer screens a request for services from the school or parent for appropriateness and interviews the youth and family.
An assessment is completed, and referrals are made to appropriate community services to address issues generating the complaint with the goal of avoiding court involvement.

The Starlight Peer Advocacy Center for Empowerment (SPACE) and the MHATC is starting a new Depression, Bipolar Disorder and Addiction Support Group. The group is open to people suffering from any bi-polar diagnosis (Bi-polar I or II, Cyclothymia, BP-NOS, etc.), including those with a dual diagnosis/co-occurring disorder. The goal of the group will be to create a safe space for people to share stories and receive peer support.

The Van Dyke Addiction Treatment Center is a 30-bed, tobacco-free, residential center operated by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS). The Van Dyke Center provides a comprehensive treatment program to addicts, their families and significant others. The Center offers separate treatment programs for women and men, designed for the special needs of each gender. There is an emphasis on using medication-assisted recovery, including Suboxone, as prescribed by the Van Dyke ATC physician.

Staff provides employment advice and referrals to returning disabled service members, recently medically retired service members, and their spouses. The primary mission is to assist these members with their search for employment opportunities at the Department of the Navy (DON), as well as with other Federal and State agencies. Additionally, assistance is provided in obtaining resources and referrals to agencies outside of the DON.

A program of the Center on Policy, Law, and Disability Studies at Syracuse University, provides information, referral and support to families and professionals working with typically-developing children and those with special education needs, from birth through 5 years old. Services include:

  • Resources, including state and federal rules and regulations, plus the evaluation process, challenging behaviors and community services
