The Alcohol and Drug Council administers the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles' (DMV) Drinking Driver Program in Tompkins County. DMV-approved instructors teach the seven-week education component. Eligible participants must register at the DMV.

The Peer Education Program promotes alternatives to alcohol, tobacco and other drug use and teaches middle school students about responsible decision-making around substance abuse issues.

High school student volunteers, known as Peer Educators, are trained to conduct workshops to teach middle school students to cope with peer pressure and stress and to make healthy decisions.

The program also provides a list of resources that supply additional information, support and counseling in the community.

The New York State Police provides 24 hour per day, 7 days per week full-spectrum police service to areas of Tompkins County not served by an on-duty, local police department. It also provides investigative, narcotics, forensic and laboratory support to local police agencies upon request. SP Ithaca is open 24 hours per day, seven days per week and there is always someone available to assist you at the front desk. Emergency: Call 911 Tompkins County 911 Center will dispatch the nearest available patrol. Child Sexual Abuse reporting: Child Sexual Abuse is a crime. If you suspect Child Sexual Abuse, contact the New York State Police. We will institute a criminal investigation or refer you to the proper jurisdiction to do so. To report DRUNK DRIVING: Call 911 or SP Ithaca to report a drunk or drugged driver. 1-800 CURB DWI will connecting you with the State Police station nearest the hard-line phone from which you call. ROAD CONDITIONS: Please do not contact us for road and weather conditions. These calls quickly overwhelm our dispatch center during storms and hamper our ability to handle incoming emergencies. For road and weather conditions on the NYS Thruway, call 1-800-THRUWAY. For state-wide road and weather conditions utilize the NYS DOT website at www.nysdot.gov and click on "Winter Travel Advisory". During the winter the AAA furnishes the "Icicle Network" road condition report daily from Dec. 1 through March 15 to radio station WHCU (870 AM). Finally, weather forecasts and storm information is available on numerous websites, such as www.weather.com

  • counseling for individuals, families, schools, business and groups affected by a traumatic experience, including suicide
  • consultation for schools, business, groups and individuals on providing support and maintaining safety after a trauma
  • trauma education for dealing with the impact of crisis, trauma and loss
  • support groups for those who have experienced loss through suicide

Offenders referred to this program are subject to frequent supervision appointments with the Specialized DWI Officer, alcosensor checks, field checks including home visits and bar checks. Offenders must install an Ignition Interlock device in their vehicles as a condition of probation. The focus of this program is to promote public safety by preventing DWI behavior through mandated treatment.
