The Forensic Program's services link the mental health system with the criminal and Family Court systems. These services are court-ordered assessment, evaluation and treatment recommendation. Other services available, all of which must be ordered by a court, include:
  • SOAR (Sexual Offender Accountability & Responsibility) program
  • DOORS (Domestic Offense Offender Re-education Services)
  • anger group
  • medication grant program
  • liaisons to felony drug treatment court and Ithaca Community Treatment (Drug) Court

Forensic Program staff also provide crisis intervention and consultation for inmates at the Tompkins County Public Safety Building.

    The Children and Youth Program is a NYS licensed outpatient treatment program for children with mental health problems. Services include

    Also provided are services to Tompkins County Family Court in the form of mandated evaluations and treatment of children and their families referred by the Court.

    The DOORS program is a rehabilitation program for men, eighteen years of age or older, who have used violence or other abusive methods to control their partners. The program's main goals are to teach abusers to take responsibility for their behavior and learn positive alternatives.

    The MHLS provides representation, without charge, to patients in psychiatric hospitals and residents of developmental centers who need legal advice or assistance concerning their institutionalization. Advocacy is provided for individuals in private as well as state operated facilities. The MHLS also serves as appointed legal counsel in Kendra's Law proceedings. The agency also is frequently appointed as court evaluator or legal counsel in guardianship proceedings under Article 81 of the Mental Hygiene Law.
